The first official training of the FIS Roller Ski World Cup leg will be held tomorrow in Khanty-Maniysk. More than a hundred athletes – men, women and juniors – from seven countries are going to fight for three sets of medals in pursuit, sprint and mass start. While the competitors are arriving in Ugra, the referees participating in the competitions have already held their first meeting.
The referee team was greeted by Valery Radchenko, Executive Director of Competitions, Director of “Ugra MegaSport”: “We are pleased to welcome you in Ugra. Someone is here for the first time, but most of you are already familiar with Khanty-Mansiysk. Elena Vyalbe, president of the Cross-country Skiing Federation of Russia, is expected to visit Khanty-Mansiysk on Sunday, and we also hope to see the Governor оf Ugra, Natalya Komarova, at the competitions. We hope to receive an exelent evaluation of our event from them”.
The meeting also included a seminar for referees presented by the chief referee of the World Cup leg in Khanty-Mansiysk, representative of the Cross-country Skiing Federation of Russia Vyacheslav Vedenin. He informed the audience about the resolutions made during the last FIS congress as well as the changes in the rules of cross-country skiing competitions. Vyacheslav Vedenin has also mentioned that Khanty-Mansiysk has the chances to host major cross-country skiing event in the nearest future: “I would like to add that this summer the Russian cross-country skiing federation has prepared a bid for hosting World Cup leg not just in roller-skiing but also in cross-country skiing in seasons 2022/23 and 2023/24. The bid is ready, we only need to define what city is the most suitable for this – Tyumen or Khanty-Mansiysk. So it would be great if referees involved in conducting roller-skiing events here would also be working on cross-country skiing competitions”.
It is to be noted that the first race of the Roller Ski World Cup leg in Khanty-Mansiysk starts on Thursday, August 22. The first two competition days will be held at the Alexander Filipenko Winter Sports Center. The full schedule of the event can be found here.
