Khanty-Mansiysk prepares to the FIS Roller Ski World Cup
Today, on July’24, a technical meeting of the executive directorate of the third leg of the FIS Roller Ski World Cup, which will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk from 22 to 25 August, was held.
Specialists of the Autonomous Institution “UgraMegaSport” headed by the Deputy Director for Sport Oleg Dress, and the Vice-President of the Cross-country Skiing Federation of Ugra Sergey Kryanin discussed key moments in the organization of the competition. The participants discussed issues like accommodation and catering for athletes, transportation, equipment of the competition office, timing and judges. Since the race will take place not only on the territory of the Alexander Filipenko Winter Sports Center, but also on the streets of Khanty-Mansiysk the representatives of the meeting paid special attention to the safety of participants and guests of the city, as well as preparation of the tracks.
It should be noted that a year ago after the end of the competition, representatives of the International Ski Federation (FIS) expressed a wish to hold the mass start race from a not on a flat track, but on the one that has uphills and downhills. Thus, this year the track will go by the picture gallery of the artist Gennady Raishev towards the Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas, will pass by the Boris Losev Park and will return back to the starting point.
“Such a decision was made in order for the roller skiers to have the opportunity to overcome the distance with a large number of climbs, turns and descents, which will make the race even more attractive not only for athletes, but also for spectators. High speed will make the race more exciting. I am sure that such competitions will not be spectatular and emotional for both participants and thwir fans”, — said Sergey Kryanin.
At the moment the organizing committee has already received entries of six teams — Italy, Latvia, Norway, Russia, Slovakia and Sweden. The total number of participants is connently 102 people. In 2019 the strongest roller skiers from eight countries were competing in Khanty-Mansiysk.
It should be reminded that the program of the competition includes three disciplines: prologue, 200m sprint and mass start.
