FIS Rollerski World Championship will take place in Latvia
Soon, from 7 to 11 August, FIS Rollerski World Championship will take place in Latvia in Madona, Latvia.
Madona is considered to be the highest city of Latvia – more than 180 meters above sea level. That’s why the winter there lasts a month longer and the snow layer is 20 cm higher than in other regions of the country. However, tourists and athletes are attracted not only by the stable snow cover, but also by the hilly terrain of the city, which is perfect for racing on roller skis.
The skiers will determine the strongest one in classic style races – 10 km for women and 20 km for men, mass start – 15 km for women and 20 km for men, a sprint of 200 meters and a team sprint within four days of competition. It should be reminded, that traditionally, both adult athletes and juniors participate in all competitions as part of the Roller ski World Cup and World Championships.
The participant of the Roller ski World Cup, Ugra athlete Yevgeny Dementiev continues to prepare for competitions at home in Khanty-Mansiysk. “The start is very soon, but there is still an opportunity to make changes in order to show a good result. Not everything worked out at the first leg in Beijing. Now the training is very intensive – I run three-hour crosses, I use every path in the city”, – the athlete said. It should be reminded, that Evgeny Dementiev finished sixteenth at the first stage, having shown the best result among Russian athletes.
Khanty-Mansiysk will have to host the race in less than two weeks after the end of the competition in Latvia. For the second time, from 22 to 25 August, the third leg of the Roller ski World Cup will be held here. As well as a year earlier, the program of competitions will include three disciplines: individual race, sprint and mass start. It should be mentioned, that just two of the three races, sprint and mass start, will be held in the very center of the okrug (district) capital, and the individual race will be held on the territory of the Alexander Filipenko Winter Sports Center.
The track for the sprint will stretch along Engels street directly to the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, and the start line of the race from a joint start will be located not far from the central square of the city. The track will go by the Gallery-workshop of the artist Gennady Raishev towards the Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas, will pass by the Boris Losev Park and will return back to starting point. It should be reminded, that women have to overcome a distance of 15 km, and men – 20 km.
The season with four races will end in Ziano di Fiemme and Val di Fiemme, which will start in Trento and finish in the Alpe Cermiz, Italy
